Illumination is an outdoor visual experience spanning multiple downtown destinations. You control the pace, and each person’s journey is unique. Start at the Cultural Center for the Arts, where lightmapping by OBLSK coats the venue in light. Continue to visit all eight Illumination locations. Check-in at each location on the path with the Illumination Pass and you're entered to win a getaway to Gervasi Vineyard, Canton's premier winery and resort.

Light Mapping
OBLSK, a team of artists, inventors, and designers generates the projection mapping and immersive art experience at the Cultural Center for the Arts. Eve Warnock, Pelham Johnston, Alexi Alexaieff, Ryan D. McKee, Marque Reavley, and Aidan Seine make up the OBLSK team creating this spectacular light display.
Additional experiences are inside the Cultural Center for the Arts including video mapping inside the Great Court by Stark County artist Megan Wanderer, an immersive light show inside Cable Recital Hall by OBLSK, and Genius Lab "touchless" family-friendly activity stations by ArtsinStark.
All activities at the Cultural Center for the Arts are free. Social distancing and masks are required.

Hall of Fame City Ice Rink
Light Display
See the lights dance across the ice as you skate in downtown Canton at the outdoor Hall of Fame City Ice Rink. Skate rentals and light refreshments are available on site. The ice rink is painted in light for Illumination in January and February, the amazing work of the experienced team at Vincent Lighting Systems.
$2 admission to skate and $2 skate rentals. Skate times on Fridays and Saturdays, from 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM, weather permitting.

Light Show
See this high tech, architectural wonder will come to life for one of the first times during Illumination with a stellar light show and music presented by the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The latest addition to the downtown Canton landscape is a tribute built in celebration of the city's role as a pillar of the National Football League's founding over 100 years ago in Canton.
The free 5-minute light show begins at 6 PM and runs every quarter-hour.

Arrowhead Vintage & Handmade Goods
3D Installation
The 3D installation beside Arrowhead Vintage & Handmade Goods brings an unexpected element, along with a fun and novel experience.
Artist, Jake Mensinger, uses 3D illustration skills earned at the Columbus College of Art and Design to create a three-dimensional artwork that is out of this world.

Buzzbin
Window Display
Chrystal Shofroth, a multidisciplinary artist, curator, event coordinator, innovator, and activist, strives to create art and make the arts accessible to underrepresented communities, giving artists from all backgrounds a platform to exhibit their work. Chrystal's VR video experience will be featured in Buzzbin's window, displayed on handpainted blacklight art pillars. Watch the augmented reality experience as Chrystal paints the world in VR.
There's a full line-up of live music scheduled at Buzzbin and a 2D blacklight art exhibition “BlackLit Music”, featuring work by several talented northeast Ohio artists.
The Illumination window display is visible from the exterior at Buzzbin. Age 21+ inside.

Julz by Alan Rodriguez
Light Sculptures
During Illumination, light sculptures created by Michele Waalkes are inside the glass window storefront at Julz by Alan Rodriguez.
Waalkes enjoys creating three-dimensional artwork by incorporating wood, metal, fabric, and lighting into her sculptures.
Shop at Julz during the day, open daily at 10 AM Tuesday-Saturday, and see the windows glowing in the night during Illumination.

Lightbox Assemblage
The windows of the Visit Canton Downtown Welcome Center will be aglow with the stacked sculptural assemblage of lightboxes, created by Ron Copeland.
Copeland, a self-taught, multidisciplinary artist, uses disregarded materials as the canvases of his printed, painted, and sculptural works, re-purposing scrap and overstock from a number of stores, galleries, sign shops, and print companies, as well as the Warhol, Akron and Cleveland Art Museums.

Sculpture and Light Projection
A sculpture inside the front window at Vital Arts gallery is painted in realtime using light projection choreographed to music.
With a Bachelor of Science degree in music technology from Kent State University, Nick Nonno is passionate about sound design and incorporates original sounds and compositions into his vibrant works of art.

Dancing in the Light: Masterworks from the Age of American Impressionism features paintings and works on paper borrowed from private collections and museum collections and pieces from the CMA’s own collection.

There are 8 official Illumination art locations. The projections and installations are on view at the Cultural Center for the Arts, Centennial Plaza, Hall of Fame City Ice Rink, Visit Canton window front, Vital Arts window front, Buzzbin window front, Julz window front, and outside of Arrowhead Vintage & Handmade Goods.

When are the Illumination art installations on display?

How much do tickets cost?
This is not a ticketed event. All Illumination art installations, displays, and activities inside the Cultural Center for the Arts are free and open to the public.
What is the Illumination Pass?
The Illumination Pass is a mobile passport for your smartphone that lists and maps the 8 official Illumination art locations. The pass also lists and maps nearby businesses, including restaurants, shops, and attractions that have extended special deals and discounts during the January-February Illumination promotional period.
How do I get the Illumination Pass?
At www.cantonlightfestival.com/illumination-mobile-passport click on “Get Yours”. Complete the form to sign-up. The pass is delivered via a link in text and email. Click on the link to open the pass on your smartphone.
When you visit each Illumination art installation click the “Check-in” button and allow the pass to confirm your geolocation for check-in. When you visit participating nearby businesses, to redeem the discount or special offer present the pass at checkout and click on “Redeem”.
What precautions are in place regarding COVID-19?
The 8 official Illumination locations are accessible to view from public spaces outside. Park and walk or drive past each display. Social distancing and masks are required inside the Cultural Center for the Arts viewing areas and activity stations. All participating businesses are individually responsible for following state and local operating requirements.
